As a family photographer based in Port Perry, Ontario, I’m always thrilled when I get the opportunity to photograph families in the beautiful landscapes that surround our town. Especially, when it’s a family like the Barkers. Where do I even begin! I have been photographing this family since Erin was pregnant with their first daughter almost a decade ago. The kids have grown up so much and it’s been fun to see how they’ve changed over the years. For this recent family photography session in Port Perry, we ventured to a farm on the island, where I was able to blend the warmth and nostalgia of film with the versatility of digital photography. The result: a collection of genuine, timeless family portraits and a lot of laughter.

The Setting: A Picturesque Farm in Port Perry

Port Perry, is the perfect location for an outdoor family session. The farm provided the ideal setting for capturing the genuine moments and connection within the Barker family. The natural beauty of the landscape, combined with the golden glow of the setting sun, created an atmosphere that reflected the love and joy this family shares. As a photographer, it’s always my goal to make the session feel effortless and fun. This allows families to enjoy the experience and create lasting memories.

Film and Digital Photography: The Best of Both Worlds

One of the unique aspects of this session was the use of both film and digital photography. The organic, grainy texture of film added a timeless, nostalgic feel to the images. While the flexibility of digital photography ensured we captured every precious and quick moment. The combination of the two mediums used resulted in a beautiful mix of nostalgic and contemporary styles, creating a well-rounded gallery of family portraits.
